Lyft is launching a car rental service amid its profitability push
Ride-hailing giant Lyft announced an expanded launch of its car rental service in California after a limited debut last spring, according to Reuters. The app-based car rental service is available in San Francisco and Los Angeles for users 22 years and older with a valid driver's license.
Rentals start at $35 per day with unlimited mileage, and users can request optional add-ons like a roof rack or a baby seat. Users pick up and drop off their vehicles at select Lyft-branded parking lots, differentiating the service from app-based car-sharing services that allow vehicles to be dropped off anywhere. Customers cannot use the rentals for ride-hailing purposes.
